The Problem:
A Nordic engineering company supplying marine engines, machinery, and equipment, as well as power plants based on oil, gas, and multi-fuel engines, faced profitability issues following an organizational transformation within its energy unit. The client needed an in-depth analysis of project execution and business performance to address these challenges.
The Solution:
SLG consultants undertook a comprehensive analysis project focused on the client’s project execution and business performance. The scope included an evaluation of systems, manpower, Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP), Master Planning, and Risk Management approaches. The SLG team conducted a detailed 3 + 9-week analysis through extensive financial and project delivery modelling, alongside interviews to assess the maturity of several areas within the company, such as project execution, risk management, sales processes, documentation, formal structure, and KPIs. Key activities included conducting interviews, developing and implementing an S&OP process, and performing organizational analysis to identify inefficiencies..
The Result:
The transformation resulted in significant improvements, including:
- Manload and organizational changes that identify overlapping and unnecessary functions.
- Findings from the analysis were agreed upon with both the Board and CEO.
- A ready-to-implement plan was developed to create a Best-in-Class project management organization.
